FELA aKUsTIc is a radical reinterpretation of the music of Afrobeat creator Fela Kuti. Fela's 15-30 piece orchestra has been stripped down to a two-four piece band and the songs considerably reinvented. The project brings together Sahr Ngaujah on vocals, who was nominated for a Tony and Olivier Award in the lead role of Fela! on Broadway, Ricardo Quinones on guitar, Danton Boller on bass and Reinaldo De Jesus on percussion. All the musicians were in the band for the show on Broadway and on its international tour, which included an extended run in London, other European cities and a special engagement in Lagos, Nigeria, the homeland of Fela Kuti. All four artists have extensive international careers. Sahr has performed in, written, and directed theater works in Europe and the US for 25 years. He starred in the ABC series Last Resort. Upcoming acting works includes PATTI CAKE$ - FOX Searchlight (summer 2017). Ricardo has collaborated with many artists including Alicia Keys, Sade, India Arie and Luther Vandross. Reinaldo hails from Puerto Rico and has lent his formidable skills to the works of Lauren Hill, Sharon Jones, Ralph Irizarry & Timbalaye, among many others. Whether he's grooving with Roy Hargrove, rocking with Bridget Everett, or jamming with Keller Williams, Danton, who produced, engineered and played bass on the FELA AKUSTIC Ep, never fails to bring his sought-after sound.
